Korean Language session. |
POPULAR Korean pop duo, The CROSS visited the
Berjaya Hotels & Resorts corporate office
at Berjaya Times Square on Aug 9, and gave a private
tutoring session to the Berjaya Hotels & Resorts'
Sales and Marketing team.
The duo, comprising musician/composer Lee Si
Ha and singer Kim Kyung Hyun, taught a team of
11 staff members on some useful phrases of the
Korean language.
There were several tongue twisters and not everyone
got the pronunciations right when they tried to
speak the language for the first time which drew
guffaws from the "students".
Lee, the more talkative of the two, rehearsed
the lines with each employee until they got the
correct pronunciation. Some of useful and relevant
phrases were "Good Morning", "Welcone
to Berjaya Langkawi/ Redang/ Tioman"; "My
name is (name) from the Sales & Marketing
department", "How may I assist you?",
"It's my pleasure having you stay with us"
and "Thank you and see you soon".
"It was Kim's dream to become a teacher
before we started The CROSS, while my dream was
to become a gangster", joked Lee as he scribbled
notes on the board.
Director of Marketing Communications for Berjaya
Hotels & Resorts, Thang Han-Ni said: "The
purpose of this tutoring session is for our Sales
& Marketing team to pick up a few key phrases
in Korean language, which is useful when they
meet clients from the Korean market," adding
they are expanding their presence in Korea as
it is a growing market.
"Instead of learning Korean in the conventional
way, which is to take up a language class, we
decided to spice things up by inviting The CROSS
to become our private tutors for the day,"
she said.
Not only did they have a fun time while learning
a new language, they also found a few useful tips.
For instance, Lee told us that Koreans love shopping
and golf which is a useful tip when the team meets
their Korean clients.
The CROSS was in town for their promotional
tour in Malaysia. Aside from a showcase at Berjaya
Times Square Complex, the duo also participated
in the 'Save the Marine Turtles' summer camp at
Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf & Spa Resort on
Aug 14.
The 'Save the Marine Turtles' benefit campaign
is aimed at pledging support to preserve a cleaner
habitat for turtles and putting more effort to
save these endangered creatures.
The CROSS later released 20 marine turtles at
the dive centre of Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf
& Spa resort to raise funds for the Fishery
Department of Pahang, to save the marine turtles.
